Last week, our students presented stories of Holocaust survivors through the powerful Names, Not Numbers® project. Highlights of their research and project work were on full display for friends, families, and other participants in the evening program. Forging personal connections to the survivors they interviewed, the students gained a deeper understanding of the Holocaust and its lessons and vowed “Never Again”. This project was done in collaboration with Lawrence Middle School which made the endeavor all the more inspiring. Through compassion and understanding, these students’ projects and the lessons within them will remain with them forever. Thank you to all the survivors who courageously shared their stories and to the people who helped make this project and evening possible. #haftr

It was a heartwarming moment this past Wednesday when our 8th graders paraded through the halls of our school, one last time. They marched proudly through the halls of the Early Childhood and Lower School building.
Their former teachers and the younger students lined the halls, cheering them on and applauding their incredible journey so far. You could see the hakarat hatov - shining in the grads’ eyes as they waved to their biggest fans.
It was such a special time, as we celebrated our 8th graders’ amazing accomplishments while also inspiring the little ones watching to dream big for their own futures. The shouts of encouragement, the eyes sparkling with pride, it all came together in that moment where the past, present, and future were unified. It was a simple ceremony, but one filled with so much heart, hope, and happiness for what’s to come. #haftr

Our HAFTR community showed up in full force at the annual Israel Day Parade on 5th. With 1,000 strong, our group certainly made a lasting impression.

This year felt especially meaningful amidst the challenges Israel has faced since October 7th. Donning blue for Israel & yellow for the hostages, our voices rang out “Am Yisrael Chai!” and “Bring Them Home!”

Our theme “Israel, You Will Never Walk Alone” resonated with other participants of the parade as well as the spectators.
Our students beamed with pride as ambassadors.

HAFTR’s powerful presence sent a vital message - our solidarity with Israel is unshakable, now more than ever.
Thank you to all who participated in this incredible act of unity. Our HAFTR family represented our eternal values beautifully. Am Yisrael Chai!

Last week, our Lower School held its annual 3rd grade Generation to Generation evening, a heartwarming celebration of family history and heritage. Students shared treasured family objects, each with a poignant story connecting past generations to the present. Handmade family seals adorned art displays. The evening was a testament to the importance of preserving memories of family while also upholding the mesorah of Judaism. Our students embraced the opportunity to share their stories with pride and enthusiasm. The singing portion of the program left the audience wowed and moved. The songs the students sang expressed gratitude for the past and its lessons as well as a feeling of hope for the future.
Thank you to all our sponsors and to those who made this event a success! #haftr

Our annual 6th grade country fair was today. Each student highlighted the wonders and important facts of a specific country to their friends and family. The displays were colorful, fun, and fascinating. Some students had cool props, or food, or neat objects relating to that country, and some had even had costumes. We learned so much! Well done 6th grade!

HAFTR Middle School 8th graders presented last week their ‘Power of Story’ Capstone Project. Researching and exploring their family history and values in their stories- students crafted and presented powerful speeches which were then highlighted and expounded upon for their families in a touching and moving evening. The students highlighted a family member’s resilience, Jewish pride, and moral and ethical courage in the face of adversity.

Participants left the evening proud of their family history and empowered to be proud Jewish and ethical citizens of the world.

We thank Ms. Rebecca Zweibon and Mrs. Jennifer Boccia for their commitment to this program, and Ms. Alyson Jacobs, and Mrs. Rinat Balsam for their work on the video. #haftr #powerofstory
